Disadvantages of Online Associate Degrees

An online degree can help further your career at your own time and pace. Although there are many advantages to getting an associate’s degree online, there are also some disadvantages, thus it is important to weigh your options. Depending on your availability, it may be hard to complete an associate online degree since there are some schools that require on-site or laboratory attendance, which makes it hard to get a degree purely online.

Although most colleges offer a wide range of online courses, may do not. It is of vital importance to check with your academic advisor. Furthermore, regardless of how many classes you take, it is necessary that you have the proper tools aside from textbooks. You will also need a computer, the right software and fast and reliable internet connection. Some may not be able to afford a software or computer while others may not have a fast internet connection. Some people who are very much interested to get an associate’s degree online but are hindered by their lack of knowledge in computers. This is especially true in older adults who did not experience using computers as they are growing up.

With an associate online degree, you need to have discipline to finish it otherwise, it would be very difficult for you. If you have the tendency to set aside things for a day, or finding it hard to follow instructions or meet deadlines, an associate online degree may not be the right choice for you.
